Located between the continental area of Central Europe and the Mediterranean basin, Veneto enjoys a sub-continental climate. The proximity of the sea and the presence of the Alpine chain, which acts as a protective shield for the cold northern winds, ensure that there are no extreme cold or heat phenomena.
When planning a holiday in the Veneto, however, it is good to bear in mind that the climate can have very different characteristics depending on the areas, as a result of the geographical peculiarities of the territory.
Specifically, one can distinguish three macro-areas to which one can add Lake Garda, which with its mild climate all year round represents a case in itself in Veneto.
The largest climatic macro-area is the plain (including the coast, the foothills and the Euganean and Berici hills), where the most interesting cities for tourists are located, such as Venice and Verona. In this area, the winter is relatively harsh, the summer hot and sultry, with abundant rainfall throughout the year but more frequent in the mid-season. Fog is often present in the winter months and humidity remains high even in the warmer seasons.
The area of the Dolomites has an Alpine-type climate, with abundant precipitation, cold winters with temperatures not infrequently dropping below zero, and cool summers.
The pre-Alpine belt and the northern part of the foothills is somewhere in between in terms of both temperature and precipitation.
Below are the weather forecasts for the next days for the main tourist destinations.
