To say that Bibione is a seaside town would be reductive. The waters that have forged the territory and identity of this famous seaside resort in Veneto are of no less than 5 types: the salt water of the Adriatic, the brackish water of the lagoon, the fresh water of the Tagliamento river, the hot water of the thermal baths and finally the waters of the waterways.
This strange mix is due to the particular shape of Bibione, a peninsula linked to the rest of the mainland by two thin strips of land. In spite of the many hotels, the landscape retains a wild charm, with marshy and wooded areas, and invites long explorations on foot, by bike, on horseback, by kayak.
On the other hand, it is quite correct to say that Bibione is an ideal location for a perfect beach holiday. The fact that it is called ‘All Beach’ should be enough to convince you that this is true, but if you have any doubts, it is worth specifying that Bibione’s extensive coastline, 10 km long, is up to 300 metres wide.
Here at last is a beach that, despite being one of the busiest in Italy, always guarantees a large distance between one beach umbrella and another. And it is also sunny all day long.
Alongside the riches of the area, Bibione has been able to offer first-class tourist services (the quality of which has been recognised by numerous awards and certifications), a vast choice of accommodation and many leisure and relaxation proposals suitable for young people, families, the elderly and the disabled.
It has been a pioneer in promoting itself as a destination for cycle tourism, eco-tourism, accessible tourism and pet-friendly tourism; it has quickly adopted new technologies to communicate quickly and effectively with customers.
This exemplary organisation, somewhat reminiscent of German perfection, will guarantee you a comfortable and stress-free holiday while the peaceful chaos of the wild natural landscape will make you completely unplug.
There is only one, very long, beach in Bibione. It is a sandy shore of fine golden sand bathed by calm waters, with shallow waters that slope slowly and allow safe bathing. All along the shoreline there are equipped areas and stretches of free beach.
Traditionally, the beach in Bibione is divided into 5 macro-areas. Moving from west to east you will find in succession Lido dei Pini, Bibione Beach, Lido del Sole, Bibione Pineda and Lido del Faro.
The bathing establishments offer all services to enjoy a seaside holiday in comfort and fun for all ages: beach umbrella and sunbed hire, showers, first aid, free entertainment, children’s play areas, sports fields and more. Some establishments offer their customers free parking and free wifi.
If you are travelling with your four-legged friends, the beach for you is called Pluto and is located at the eastern end of the beach, before Lido del Faro.
A special feature of the beach in Bibione is the establishment of a no-smoking area to protect the health of bathers and the environment. Smoking is possible, but only in dedicated areas located behind the rows of beach umbrellas and in the bars.
Bibione is a typical seaside resort with no museums or famous monuments. However, there are quite a few things to see and do for lovers of nature, outdoor sports and relaxation.
The symbol of Bibione is the Punta Tagliamento Lighthouse, located near the point where the Tagliamento River meets the Adriatic Sea. Cylindrical in shape, completely white, it is 21 metres high and visible from a distance of 15 miles from the coast.
It was built at the beginning of the 20th century, bombed during the First World War, rebuilt and serviced several times. Since 1952 it has been powered by electricity: until then the light from the lighthouse was produced by an amplified fire using powerful lenses; in 1973 it was fully automated.
In the summer months, the area outside the lighthouse is transformed into a lively cultural centre hosting exhibitions and live events; it is also used as a venue for civil marriages. Guided tours inside the lighthouse are also organised.
The lighthouse can only be reached on foot or by bicycle along the cycle path through the pine forest or along the beach. The nearest car parks are in Via Procione or Piazzale Zenith, about 3 km away.
Bibione is a true paradise for cycling enthusiasts, both for the quantity of cycle routes and for the services specifically aimed at travellers in the saddle.
There are around thirty kilometres of cycle paths between the seafront and the hinterland of Bibione, and this is only in the vicinity of the town.
Those who are willing to travel longer distances and alternate between stretches reserved for bicycles and roads with little traffic will have a wide choice of routes, suitable for city bikes as well as mountain bikes and gravel bikes. In some cases, it is possible to load bikes onto boats on river and lagoon routes.
So there is something for everyone, from easy family rides to long rides that require good training.
The most famous cycle path in Bibione is the one that crosses the entire seafront and leads to the lighthouse; another parallel cycle path runs inland.
Two longer routes that are particularly suitable for enjoying the scenic beauty of the area are the Itinerario dei Casoni, about 23 km long, and the Gira Tagliamento. The latter is a loop route that follows the course of the river to the town of San Michele al Tagliamento and back, for a total of approximately 36 km.
Bibione’s bike hotels are equipped with bike racks or rooms for bike storage, spaces and equipment for washing bikes, tools for bike maintenance and repair, and cycling guides.
Although it has some similarities with the more famous Venice Lagoon, located further south, the Bibione Lagoon is a world of its own. A fascinating way to explore it and learn about local traditions and customs is to join a boat tour.
Departing from Bibione Pineda, the boat will move slowly through the calm waters of the lagoon, letting you discover the peculiarities of this still largely wild territory and its rich flora and fauna.
During the excursion you will be able to see the traditional fishermen’s huts, a symbol of the strong bond between the locals and the water.
An area of great charm in the picturesque area of the Bibione lagoon is ValGrande, a fishing valley characterised by black pine and holm oak woods, plants and flowers typical of the lagoon area and rare animal species.
The area is privately owned and can only be visited by guided tours on foot, by bicycle or on horseback.
Bibione is probably the only seaside resort in northern Italy where you can bathe even in winter without suffering the cold.
This is due to the thermal waters that flow from underground in Bibione; the spring is 500 metres deep and the water temperature at the source is 52°. These are alkaline-bicarbonate-sodic waters, rich in beneficial properties, effectively used for numerous curative and therapeutic treatments.
The spa in Bibione combines traditional treatments affiliated with the National Health Service with a modern spa area entirely dedicated to wellness. Inside this area you will find indoor and outdoor pools, whirlpools, waterfalls, counter-current swimming path, beauty centre and lounge bar.
The indoor and outdoor pools are connected; in both, the water temperature exceeds 30° and thus allows for pleasant outdoor swimming even in the cold season.
From Bibione it is possible to reach fascinating places in the Veneto and southern Friuli with a day trip.
The beautiful city of Venice is not far away, but reaching it by car or public transport can take a long time because the two cities are not directly connected.

Another popular trip for holidaymakers in Bibione is to Aquileia, a town in Friuli that stands on the site of an ancient Roman colony: here you can admire the most important archaeological site in north-eastern Italy and a splendid basilica.
A key factor in Bibione’s tourist success is its highly developed hotel industry, which guarantees a wide choice of hotels, flats and holiday homes.
