The number of hotels in Venice is impressive and this sometimes bewilders those who, having never stayed in the lagoon city, find themselves having to choose a good place to sleep in the most suitable district.

Not infrequently, expectations are disappointed during the holiday, either because the hotel description online does not correspond exactly to the truth, or because the staff turns out to be unprofessional or even rude.

It would be a crime to have the magic of a unique and inimitable city ruined by a low-quality hotel. Better to play it safe: book one of the recommended hotels in Venice that we present on this page. These are the best hotels for location, value for money and charm; they are all equipped with 24-hour reception, wifi, luggage storage and other services that have become indispensable for contemporary travellers but retain their Venetian charm.

Keep in mind that due to the structural characteristics of Venetian palaces, rooms in Venice are generally smaller than the average size of a hotel room in other cities and can sometimes be lacklustre.

For this reason, in choosing the recommended hotels we have paid close attention to the comfort ratings expressed by travellers in their reviews, selecting only the positive ones.

Hotel Casanova

1 Venice - Frezzaria 1284

8.2

For those who want to sleep a stone’s throw from St. Mark, Hotel Casanova is an ideal choice. This 4-star hotel is located only 70 metres from the entrance to the square on the Correr Museum side; you can reach the famous Basilica in a few minutes on foot.

Getting around by vaporetto is also very convenient: the nearest vaporetto stop is only 200 metres away and can be reached without crossing bridges, no small detail for those arriving with heavy luggage.

Hotel Casanova is housed in an 18th century Venetian palace and is characterised by elegant rooms that make extensive use of brocades, velvets and mirrors; the prevailing colours are gold and red, but some rooms have more neutral tones.

All rooms and suites overlook typical Venetian calli in an elegant shopping area, very busy during the day but fairly quiet at night. Well soundproofed, they are very quiet despite being in a busy tourist area. They can accommodate 1-2 people; in the larger ones it is possible to request beds for 2 children.

Breakfast is plentiful and repeatedly praised in guest reviews. It is possible to request a breakfast box for those leaving before breakfast time.

8.9

Another convenient hotel in St. Mark’s that you can easily reach is the Splendid Venice – Starhotels Collezione, a 4-star hotel located between St. Mark’s and Rialto: the hotel has a private pier, so you can arrive by water taxi. The nearest vaporetto stop is Rialto Bridge, a 5-minute walk away. The area is ideal for easy access to all the main tourist attractions.

The elegant, well-thought-out furnishings recreate typical Venetian ambience, softening some of its excesses with touches of modern design. The rooms and junior suites can accommodate up to 2 people; canal view rooms are also available. For larger groups, there are presidential suites for up to 4 people, but the cost is definitely high.

The jewel in the crown of the Splendid Venice is the rooftop terrace with stunning views over the city, where there is a rooftop bar perfect for your evening drinks. For your dinners, on the other hand, you can count on an in-house restaurant serving typical Venetian cuisine and succulent seafood dishes.

Do you find the typical Venetian style a bit too heavy for your taste? Do you dread the idea of staying in a structure that has not been updated for some time? The right hotel for you is the H10 Palazzo Canova, a 4-star hotel in San Polo with spacious and very bright, highly comfortable rooms.

Overlooking the Grand Canal, just a stone’s throw from the Rialto Bridge, it is furnished in a very classy contemporary style that respects the Venetian style while avoiding Rococo excesses and typical strong colours such as red or gold.

The hotel has a splendid terrace with a canal view that will allow you to admire Venice in all its beauty, perhaps while enjoying a cocktail or a full dinner.

All rooms have a seating area, a bathroom with bathtub, and a work desk. Some have a partial canal view, others a courtyard or city view; only the very luxurious junior suites have a full Grand Canal view.

Residenza d'Epoca San Cassiano

9 Venice - Hotel San Cassiano - Residenza d'Epoca Ca' Favaretto / Santa Croce 2232
Fabulous1.181 reviews
8.9

Can you have a view of the Grand Canal without confusion? Yes, the hotel for you is the Residenza d’Epoca San Cassiano: although overlooking the canal that runs through the centre of Venice, this 4-star hotel is located in Santa Croce, a quiet area ignored by the main tourist routes. It can be reached on foot along uncrowded calli or comfortably by water taxi or gondola thanks to the private pier.

The building that houses the hotel is a magnificent 14th-century palace that in the 19th century was the home of Giacomo Favretto, one of the greatest Venetian painters of the time. The recent renovation has kept the building’s structural features intact, and so the décor is true to the Venetian style, with antique furniture and original Murano chandeliers.

The hotel has a canal view terrace that is much appreciated by guests. There is no in-house restaurant, but some agreements with local restaurants are available.

The rooms can accommodate from 1 to 4 people. The view is on a calle, a side canal or the internal courtyard; only deluxe rooms have views of the Grand Canal and Ca’ d’Oro. Some rooms have a private balcony.
